It has been a big couple of weeks with lots happening around the club. Some improved and solid performances gave us a strong show across the board on-field and the Trivia Night and T20 last week were cracking evenings. Well done and thank you to all who supported the club at these events.
THIS THURSDAY NIGHT AFTER TRAINING we are going to have our selection night dinner at Del Mar (just around the corner from Koornang Park). Del Mar is a generous sponsor of our club so attendance is compulsory for all senior players. They also do great coffees and food and are fully licensed if you are looking for a place to have a beverage or a bite.
Our juniors have also been going well. Unfortunately most games were washed out on Friday night but the Under 13s still played and put in a valiant effort defending their 121 before Caulfield passed them late in the cold, wet night. The under 12s continued their unbeaten run on Saturday morning with a win over Brighton. All 6 of ur T20 BLAST teams are all going well and Marnie and Aidan are doing a fine job with the Milo in2CRICKET on Sundays. Get along and see our juniors in action with games every Friday night and Saturday morning at Lords Res # 3 and every Friday at East Caulfield Res # 2 (next to Monash Uni), T20 BLAST every Saturday at Koornang Park and Sundays at Hurlingham Park East Brighton and in2CRICKET every Sunday from 10AM at Koornang.

The 1s were stoic in their efforts against Port Melbourne. On a dicy wicket in week 1 we managed to put 150 on the board with Regan “Ron Dog” Buckley top scoring with 45 at the top of the order in a gutsy effort that lasted 50 overs. In a reduced overs day in week 2, we were in a strong position before Port managed to pass our score in the last over of the day. Regan again led the way by picking up 5 fa with the ball in a herculean effort from 20 overs.
The 2s were at home in far more favourable conditions at Koornang Park and had a bat on day 1. A positive start saw the run rate up at 4 per over before losing our openers. Stuart Easton joined Al Patey and kept the runs flowing until Stuart came undone and before drinks and we were 3 down. Andrew Morrissey and Al saw off the openers and then proceeded to plunder the attack to all parts before Andrew tried one too many ambitious shots and was out for a fine 68 in a 100 run partnership with Al. We kept the runs flowing and wickets were falling but Al remained at the crease to see a few more team mates come and go. Al had an ounce of luck and managed his maiden ton for the Negie and was met with rapture from his team mates. Day 1 ended with us at 7/309. The day 2 wicket had a bit more juice in it and the Port boys were on the back foot right from the start. Wickets came easily for the Neg with all bowlers chiming in to have them cleaned up before the tea break for 60. We put them back in hoping for an outright but after 3pm the Koornang Park wicket was a far more docile place to bat and we could only pick up 4 wickets in the 2nd dig. Aarun “BBQ” Tong took 3 in the first dig along with Lukey Meyer.
The 3s were playing against Old Camberwell Gammarians at the massive Cordner Oval in Fawkner Park. It was tough going on day 1 with the bat and we eventually scraped together 104 with Peter Scoulidis scoring 31. We had 18 overs at them and managed to snare 2/26 with both wickets going to Kris Srikanth. Day 2 saw us take up the challenge but Old Camberwell got over the line.
The 4s have had a couple of see-sawing affairs in their past 2 games. We managed to roll Monash Uni for 56 last week only to find ourselves in all sorts of trouble at 8/40 odd before Steve “Old Man River” Yeats guided us home for Ranjit Nair’s maiden win as skipper. Sumit “Sam” Chawla picked up 4 wickets with the ball. The following week we were up against a strong Powerhouse outfit and we were all out for 101 in 41 overs. Our turn to bowl got us right into contention when we had the opposition 5/56 before they passed us 7 down with 11 overs to spare.
Sunday B have had a fortnight of ups and downs. A convincing win against Glen Iris last week where we put on 187 with Ari Morton continuing his good form with 41 which handed us an easy victory with Glen Iris only getting to 8/101. This week was a different story when we batted first against Emmanuel South Oakleigh when we were bowled out for 90 of 22 overs and were easily passed in 25 overs with the opposition 5 wickets down.
Sunday A grade are having a good old time with only 1 loss this season and Ash leading his merry men on their merry way to cruising victories, often passing opposition totals with only 2 or 3 wickets down. Mayank Srivistava has been in hot form with the bat and the bowling honours have been shared around.
