Vale Ted McAuliffe

Members, supporters and past players of Carnegie Cricket Club are deeply saddened by the passing of former
president and premiership player, Ted McAuliffe.

Ted was a stalwart of our club, a friend and mentor to many, and greatly respected for a contribution that spanned
four decades.

He started his playing career with Carnegie in the 1960s, was a member of the 1971/72 1 st XI premiership team and
was a significant part of the club’s renaissance.

A fierce competitor on the field, Ted continued to play well into the 1980s. His service off the field was invaluable,
holding down numerous administrative roles, including ten years as president.

We offer our deepest condolences to Ted and Jan’s (dec) children, Simon, Lisa and Ben and extended families.

Vale Stephen Yeats

It’s with a heavy heart that we regret to inform our members and supporters that life member and club legend, Steve Yeats, has unfortunately passed away yesterday Tuesday 12/7/22 in the morning.

Steve has suffered a series of strokes recently and after some scans, had revealed a stage 4 tumour growing on his brain.  Steve had just been relocated to care in Geelong for rehabilitation and to be closer with his family before sadly passing away.

Steve was a long time serving member and committee member with over 40years service to Carnegie and over 50 years service to cricket, which was recognised by Cricket Australia. Steve was like a father figure to many at the club who always gave advice to those in need of life guidance and cricket thirst, and when Steve spoke, people listened and took in everything he preached.

Over his years at Carnegie, Steve played many years in the 1st XI and played a perfect all rounder role with both bat and ball.  Like everyone, he aged and found his way moving down the grades and while doing so, adding a huge amount of depth and experience to every side he played in.  Steve not only contributed on the field but also served on the committee and had the honour of being President in 1992/93. He was a long time serving general committee member and chairman of selectors for many years. Throughout his playing career he was a 2 time club champion winning our prestigious Merv Sutherland award in 89/90 and again in 99/00.

Steve captained many sides across all grades and had a very big impact on the 3rd XI throughout the 2000s.  Many of the aspiring juniors were mentored by Steve and made their way into the 1st XI in the years to come, where they became core members who excelled with their cricket.

Steve was greatly respected in the not just the Carnegie circle but also the whole cricket community after building friendships with so many opposition players, as a player and also later when he decided to retire from playing and become an official umpire.  No doubt the cricket community is mourning  and are extending their condolences to Steve’s 2 daughters Rachael and Katie who he leaves behind.

Past Players Day & Official Opening of Koornang Park Pavilion

On Saturday, 26th of February 2022, Carnegie Cricket Club took a formal opportunity to officially open the newly renovated Koornang Park Pavilion in person with special guests from City of Glen Eira Mayor Cr J Magee, councillors M Esakoff, A Cade, MLA Steve Dimopoulos and MHR Katie Allen to cut the ribbon and declare the rooms open. Carnegie Cricket Club saw the milestone effort in conjunction with the generous funding from the Victorian State Government, with MLA Steve Dimopoulos assisting greatly with funding for the Koornang Park renovation and funding for the new Lord Reserve Pavilion. The City of Glen Eira funded the substantial balance. Steve Dimopoulos also assisted Carnegie Cricket Club with funding the electronic scoreboard at Koornang Park with the Caulfield Bears Junior Football Club and Caulfield Bears Football Netball Club. There was also substantial funding for the previous upgrade of the change rooms to make the bathroom facilities female friendly.

With the assistance of a grant by the Australian Federal Government, then local federal MHR for Higgins, Kelly O’Dwyer, solar panels were fitted to the roof in 2018. Most recently, local federal MHR Katie Allen assisted with grants to enable the City of Glen Eira to increase and improve the training nets facilities.

During the day was our past players day, which has been 2 years since we have been able to hold the event due to covid. Former Club President, Pat O’Shannessy, was a driving force behind making the day and night a big success. It was a big turnout from players and supporters, past and present, and we were able to unveil our new club honour boards thanks to the generous bequest of the late club legend, Ron Cusack. Our new honour boards include our Women’s champion player award. Special mention goes to Ron’s son, Ross, and grandson, Andrew, who attended the day and were able to capture the moment along with players from Ron’s premiership teams. We would also like to thank Louise Nelson, who attended the opening on behalf of the Caulfield Bears Junior Football Club. The highlight of the evening was guest speaker, Ros Batson, who is past player of the inaugural CSBW Carnegie Women’s team, current Cricket Southern Bayside Board Member and Chair of the All Girls Cricket Competition. Ros also coaches the combined Washington Park/Carnegie 17 & Under girls team who play finals this week. Thank you to all who support Carnegie Cricket Club.

Thank you to all who support Carnegie Cricket Club.
