Junior Pre-Season Dates

Welcome back to another season of cricket.  It might be the middle of another rainy, cold Melbourne winter but we are in full swing here at Carnegie Cricket Club preparing for the upcoming cricket season.

Just like previous seasons, we will once again be holding the first three sessions in an indoor centre to kick the training off for the season.  This year we have secured one of Melbourne’s Premier Indoor Centres, YoungGun Cricket.  It’s a beautiful centre and it’s nice and close.  It even has a viewing area where parents can watch and mingle while sessions are being conducted.

These sessions will once again be on late Saturday afternoons/evenings.  We apologise if this time does not work for you but with a lot of our junior players committed to winter sport and training during the week, we find the best time to hold these early season sessions are late on a Saturday.

Venue: YoungGun Cricket
32 Levanswell Rd, Moorabbin
Session 1       Saturday  24th August
Session 2       Saturday  31st August
Session 3       Saturday  07th September
U12 Rookies & Under 12s        4:30pm – 6:00pm
U13, U14, U15, U17 & Girls      6:00pm – 7:30pm

Note:  These sessions are limited to our Junior Players who are looking to play with Carnegie CC in the upcoming 2019/20 season.  New players to Carnegie are welcome to attend.  Master Baster and Junior Blaster training details will be released in the next few weeks.

We look forward to seeing everybody there.

Junior Registrations Open for 2019/20

Carnegie Cricket Club has opened Junior Registrations for the upcoming season.

Over the last few years the club has experienced exceptional growth and we are again expecting demand for places to be high.  We encourage all of our returning players to register as soon as possible to avoid missing out on a place.

You can register directly by going to the PlayCricket link below.  Please read the information on the PlayCricket carefully to ensure you register to the correct registration type.

Details for our pre-season sessions will follow shortly.

Senior Pre-Season Dates Announced

Carnegie Cricket Club’s Senior Pre-season is well under way and we have been working hard on making this the biggest and best cricket pre-season so far. We also continue to have a mix of weekend and weekday sessions to allow as many players as possible to make training. We have also added 3 specialist skills sessions that will be limited numbers (this will be explained by the coach during the main training sessions) so players can focus on specific areas. We will also soon announce some other specialist targeted sessions.

We have booked plenty of capacity with extra lanes at Sandown indoor sports so our older junior players and women’s players can also join the main sessions. All are most welcome!! Further more detailed schedules for juniors and women’s sides will follow soon, stay tuned.

We have also retained 3 sessions this season at Junction Oval facility.

This webpage will be regularly updated to keep all informed on any new sessions.

New players are most welcome to attend any main training session. Just come along and introduce yourself to the Net Captain (has the clip board) or the Coach (with the whistle). Please as a minimum wear a White or Dark Blue T-Shirt.

Minimum training requirements will still apply so try to attend as many sessions as possible. We have removed the completed sessions from this page to make it easy to follow. Please bring $5 to cover for Net Rental.

Carnegie celebrates record breaking Premiership Haul

Carnegie Cricket Club is celebrating after landing a record 5 senior Premierships in the 2018/19 season.

The club won Premierships in Cricket Southern Bayside (CSB) Women’s Division 1 and Men’s Division 3 and 4 before adding the  Mercantile Cricket Association (MCA) C South and D Saturday Premierships last weekend. This was in addition to the White Ball Premiership in CSB Division 3 earlier this year.

The club also had losing Grand Finalists in MCA D Sunday, and were finalists in the CSB Championship and MCA A Sunday Division.

5 Premierships is a new record for Carnegie, a club which has existed since 1906.

The Carnegie Second XI celebrate the 2019-19 CSB Division 3 Premiership.

Quotes attributable to Pat O’Shannessy, President.

“It’s been a remarkable season for this famous club. It’s the result of many hours of hard work on and off the field.”

“We’re growing each year. Fielding 8 senior teams is a massive achievement in itself, and to have all of them make finals and 5 of them win Premierships is unbelievable. We think it could be a record for any community cricket club.”

Quotes attributable to Ajay Bhatt, Head Coach.

“The first thing that struck me when I came to the club was the commitment and drive from everyone to improve and compete at every level. They were open to try new things that can help them be better. Its hard to find that attitude in players at club level”

“I’ve played cricket for over 20 years, and I can’t remember anything like the season we’ve had at Carnegie”

Quotes attributable to Penny Callaghan, Women’s Captain and Junior Coordinator .

“At the start of the season we didn’t even have a women’s team, to end it as Premiers was something really special. There is a great spirit at this club and we’re so proud of what we’ve achieved this season.”

As well as the amazing year for our seniors, we’ve got 13 junior teams and 4 of them got into finals with the Under 15 boys team finishing runners up and our All Girls team making finals for the 3rd straight season. Our Woolworths Cricket Blast programs are also going really well thanks to our volunteers.”

“Sam Perry is a broadcaster, speaker, writer, and recovering leg-spinner.

Tiring of life as a corporate automaton, and after too many years playing cricket in suburban outposts across Australia, Sam founded The Grade Cricketer. Along with two friends, Dave Edwards and Ian Higgins, this anonymous everyman provides satirical reflections on Australian grassroots cricket, manifesting in two books, a podcast, live shows and most recently a TV production on Channel Seven.

Writing this anonymous character has permitted him to regularly accept guest spots on TV with both the BBC and ABC, as well as host events at presentation nights, award ceremonies, golf days, schools, breakfasts, lunches and dinners, as well as that heady institution: after-dinner speaking. Beyond Grade Cricketer life, Sam is also a freelance sports writer, with bylines in The Guardian, ESPN, Wisden, and FOX Sports, writing colour pieces, interviews, features, book reviews, live blogs and match reports.”*
