Past Players Day & Official Opening of Koornang Park Pavilion

On Saturday, 26th of February 2022, Carnegie Cricket Club took a formal opportunity to officially open the newly renovated Koornang Park Pavilion in person with special guests from City of Glen Eira Mayor Cr J Magee, councillors M Esakoff, A Cade, MLA Steve Dimopoulos and MHR Katie Allen to cut the ribbon and declare the rooms open. Carnegie Cricket Club saw the milestone effort in conjunction with the generous funding from the Victorian State Government, with MLA Steve Dimopoulos assisting greatly with funding for the Koornang Park renovation and funding for the new Lord Reserve Pavilion. The City of Glen Eira funded the substantial balance. Steve Dimopoulos also assisted Carnegie Cricket Club with funding the electronic scoreboard at Koornang Park with the Caulfield Bears Junior Football Club and Caulfield Bears Football Netball Club. There was also substantial funding for the previous upgrade of the change rooms to make the bathroom facilities female friendly.

With the assistance of a grant by the Australian Federal Government, then local federal MHR for Higgins, Kelly O’Dwyer, solar panels were fitted to the roof in 2018. Most recently, local federal MHR Katie Allen assisted with grants to enable the City of Glen Eira to increase and improve the training nets facilities.

During the day was our past players day, which has been 2 years since we have been able to hold the event due to covid. Former Club President, Pat O’Shannessy, was a driving force behind making the day and night a big success. It was a big turnout from players and supporters, past and present, and we were able to unveil our new club honour boards thanks to the generous bequest of the late club legend, Ron Cusack. Our new honour boards include our Women’s champion player award. Special mention goes to Ron’s son, Ross, and grandson, Andrew, who attended the day and were able to capture the moment along with players from Ron’s premiership teams. We would also like to thank Louise Nelson, who attended the opening on behalf of the Caulfield Bears Junior Football Club. The highlight of the evening was guest speaker, Ros Batson, who is past player of the inaugural CSBW Carnegie Women’s team, current Cricket Southern Bayside Board Member and Chair of the All Girls Cricket Competition. Ros also coaches the combined Washington Park/Carnegie 17 & Under girls team who play finals this week. Thank you to all who support Carnegie Cricket Club.
