Past Players/Sportsman Night 31/1/2015

Social

The past players day will start next Saturday at 3:30pm with the 1XI doing battle against Mentone on Koornang Park. The boys would love your support and as always there will be plenty of scorebooks, photos and memorabilia on display.

This will be followed at 7pm with our guest speaker and dinner. This year we are delighted to announce Kevin Bartlett as our guest speaker.

Kevin played 403 VFL/AFL games, the second most of all time. He won five premierships with Richmond along with their best and fairest five times. With finals just around the corner for most of our teams i’m sure hearing from a man with so much finals experience will be invaluable.

The official function starts @7pm, we encourage all past players and current day players to attend and support this yearly event.

$30 ($15 Juniors) includes;
3:30pm – 1XI vs Mentone, Scorebooks, Photos and Memorabilia
7:00pm – Speaker and Dinner
Drinks at Bar prices

We look forward to seeing everyone on the day/night.

After a poor weekend of weather and only 3 games getting a start the weather has now cleared.

Seniors

The First XI is away to Old Mentone, Anuj is back in and Raj Bala is out. Raj needing to spend some extra time shining his bald head. The first’s needing to carry on their good Pre-Xmas form and set up the run home to the finals.

The Seconds are at home to Beaumaris and Carnegie will be looking to reverse the narrow 3 run loss in rnd one. Scott Oram has been promoted into the seconds to hit some big sixes. The 2nds are playing in colours this week so make sure you bring your coloured shirts with you.

The Third Eleven is @ Lord reserve playing against Alec Kahn’s Reds, lets hope the umpires don’t call off play down there this week. Dave Morrissey is returning from a 2 month lay off from shoulder surgery and is raring to go.

The 4ths are down at Princes Park #4 this week vs Burnley, the 4ths made every effort to play last week lets hope they get a full game in this week. Led by the Saturday night owl Dave Goodey and managed by the Guava loving GT get down there bright and early and get a big win.

The A Grade coming off a narrow loss at Koornang last Sunday, will be looking to put Monash to the sword at KP.

The Sunday B also coming off a narrow last Sunday at Lord will be looking to beat the Melbourne Strikers at Faukner Park 3. Del Mar Selection Night

Well done to all who attended the Del Mar selection night last night. It was great to see 40+ Neggie boys and also great to see some partners in attendance as well. A good night was had by all and if you did miss out get around to their outdoor area and enjoy a great meal. Highlight of the night was the very long reading of the teams by the chairman of selectors, he certainly has learnt a few things from last years chairman.

Well done all!

Brenton “Toss” Cranwell has fallen ill

We have received some bad news, popular club member Brenton “Toss” Cranwell has been diagnosed with blood cancer. Brenton 28 years of age had surgery on a hernia and his bowel last week, during this procedure he was diagnosed with blood cancer. Chemotherapy will start next week. He is doing as well as can be expected in the situation.

Brenton is self employed and with his partner Simone has 2 young kids under 4 Ella & Brax. Whilst everyone including the family are extremely positive there is a tough road ahead.

As a gesture from the club, its members and supporters there will be a card placed at the Clubrooms from Thursday night till Sunday. Tim Dodgson will be collecting donations to assist Simone and the two kids to enjoy Christmas as much as they possibly can. Please give what you can and write a message of support to put a smile on the face of the ones who really need it in this time of need.
