What a big weekend of cricket it is going to be!
It’s been a massive week of cricket at Carnegie and it keeps getting bigger with finals starting for the 1st AND 2nd XI teams. The 3rds & 4ths and Sunday A & B have their final home away match this week and the U15s are scrapping to keep their season alive in their semi-final battle with Murrumbeena at Packer Park on Friday.
The 1sts successfully defended 248 against Brighton District last Saturday with Danny Davies taking 4 wickets to help the team knock them over for 130, we finished 4th on the ladder. This week we face cross town rivals in Murrumbeena in a sudden death semi final at the Beena. Raj Bala is back in from his general soreness.
The 2nds chased down 135 against Brighton District at Dendy Park last Saturday, with Louie Turpie scoring 53, and both Murphy and BBQ Tong with 3 wickets each, we finished 3rd on the ladder. This week we face Beaumaris @ Beaumaris Reserve in a sudden death Semi Final, we have played Beaumaris twice this season with one win and one narrow loss. Dave “Iron Gloves” Morrissey, Tim “MG” Dodgson and Luke Meyer come into the line up.
With the 1s and 2s away it gives the Saturday 4th XI a chance to strut their stuff on Koornang Park against Reds. A win will mean a home semi final the following week. They had a washout against the top placed team last week. Dave “the model” Goodey looks to almost have his finals team on the park this week. The team manager mentioned last night that she will be at KP 3 days this week, what a supporter.
The 3rd XI are at Lords against Eastern Flow and after a win last week against Parkville Districts, the boys will be keen to finish the season on a high note. It will be a long day with the match starting at 11AM!!! Josh Meyer with the big promotion, nearly got to play seniors with his old man, oh well next year.
Sunday B grade are against Power House at Faulkner Park and will be looking for a win to guarantee finals. A washout last Sunday meant they missed a chance to knock off East Malvern Tooronga. Niraj “the natural” Edwards will be at the helm and M Bayliss also having a hit.
Sunday A grade have their match on Monday against South Yarra and will also be looking to finish on a high with the good chance of a strong crowd at Koornang Park. We have a really strong team on the park and they will be looking to cause likely finalist South Yarra some pain.
It was a massive day last Sunday with the whole of club photo in the grandstand and a good time had by all. Thanks to all those who attended. Milo in2CRICKET completed their season with Aidan OShannessey doing a fine job leading the chargers. We will get some picture up online and on the app soon.
The U11 & U13 Junior Teams and T20 BLAST also finished up over the weekend and congratulations goes out to all involved, especially players, coaches and team managers on a very successful season.
For all teams good luck for the weekend and for the players taking to the ground in finals for this proud club do your best, you have been selected as the best players for your team.
Go Neggies!
