Season 2024/25 Update
We are proud to be able to run eight junior teams this season – one of the most comprehensive and competitive offerings of any club in the area!
Our teams play in the Inner South East Cricket (ISEC) competition, which follows the excellent formats laid out by Cricket Victoria and Cricket Australia to maximise involvement, learning and most-of-all enjoyment for EVERY player!
Cricket Australia has continued to develop modified rules for the younger players. Details can be found here.

This season Carnegie CC have 2 x Under 11 teams (both play Sundays); 2 x Under 13 teams (one Saturday; one Sunday); 2 x Under 15 (both Sunday); and 2 x Under 17 (both Sunday).
Stage 1 – U11 will play on a 16 metre pitch with 7 players. Every player bats and bowls. Take turns to keep wicket. Being ‘out’ is minus four runs, batter continues to bat. 20 overs per team.
Stage 2 – U13 will play on a 18 metre pitch with 9 players. Every player bats and bowls. Being out = out. 24 overs per team
Stage 3 – U15 and U17 on a full length cricket pitch with 11 players. Full rules of cricket, normally on full-sizes ovals.
Under 11
Carnegie Cricket Club has 2 Under 11 teams in 2024/25.
The U11 competition is intended as a transition format for those young players making the jump to hard ball cricket. It is perfect for those players who have completed Master Blasters or for the player who is not quite ready to face the hard leather ball.
Under 11s play the Stage 1 modified rules. The format is a 7 v 7 match. The pitch is shorthened to 16m and the boundary is nice and close to reward the players who can hit the ball with some power. Wickets are counted as penalties rather than dismissals and the ball is a medium rubber ball – ‘Softaball’.
Both our Under 11 teams play Sunday mornings. Both teams train every Tuesday at 5-6pm at Koornang Park. Games are played once a week (~2 hours).
For players who are aged 8-10 years old and under at 31/08/2024
Under 13
Carnegie Cricket Club will have 2 Under 13 teams in 2024/25.
The Under 12 will play Stage 2. Under 13 teams is hard ball cricket and a step up from Under 11s. However the main aim is still all about fun, enjoyment and developing game skills in a grade that matches each player’s development level.
U13 ISEC is a 9 v 9 format and the pitch is shortened to 18m. Wicket are counted as dismissals and the ball is a regulation leather cricket ball (142g).
U12 A, B will play VMCU modified rules on a shorter pitch. These will be 11 v 11 grades but still play off the 18m pitch. Like above wickets are counted as dismissals and the ball is a regulation leather ball.
Both our Under 13 teams play Sunday mornings. Both teams train every Tuesday at 4.45-6pm at Koornang Park. Games are played once a week (~2.5 hours).
For players who are aged 9 – 11 years at 31/08/2024
Under 15 Turf
Carnegie Cricket Club will have 2 teams it the Under 15 age groups, one in B Grade, one in C Grade for younger players or those starting out on turf.
Players enjoy taking on the new challenges they face in stepping up to this level, especially as the ISEC competition is played on turf, making it very much like “real cricket”. At this stage we move away from “everybody does everything” to helping develop players a specific role in teams, focussing on what they want to do in a game whether bat, bowl, keep or field.
At this level, games are played over both one day (24 overs) and two weeks – where one team will bat one week and the other will bowl and then vice versa the following week.
There is team training session held each Thursday from 4.45pm with the coaching geared towards challenging the players to better their skills whilst still maintaining the fun elements of the game. There are also occasional specialist training sessions from expert senior CCC players to further develop junior player skills.
Games are played once a week on Sunday mornings for both U15 teams. The home ground for the Under 15 teams is Lord Reserve, home to CCC Senior and Women’s Teams and one of the best wickets in the area.
For players who are 13/14 or younger as at 31/08/2024
Under 17 Turf
Carnegie Cricket Club will offer 2 older age teams in 2024/25.
There is team training session held each Thursday from 4.45pm with the coaching geared towards challenging the players to better their skills whilst still maintaining the fun elements of the game. There are also occasional specialist training sessions from expert senior CCC players to further develop junior player skills. On Thursday, U17 players are strongly encouraged to stay after Junior training to train with Seniors in the hope that they play Senior cricket on the weekend, if they are interested.
Boys and girls welcome. Games are played one a week on Sunday mornings. The home ground for the Under 17 teams is Koornang Park, home to CCC First Team, arguably the best wicket in the area.
For players who turn 15, 17 or younger as at 31/08/2024
