Extreme Weather Update for Today and This Weekend

Hi All

As all would be aware we are in a early summer heatwave, the temps today and over the weekend will increase even further.

Current instructions from the associations is that all games are proceeding at this stage and it is “report to grounds”. All the skippers/Coaches/Managers are aware of the rules and will manage the games along with the opposing skipper and the umpires.

We have already had one game move forward for the day and that is the Saturday U-12’s they are now staring at 8am (be there 7.45am).

Hot_Weather_Policy_3

In Brief

If senior matches are moved forward your captains will advise you and if Friday/Saturday junior matches are effected your coaches and team managers will be in-touch.

The rules are pretty clear, in the VTCA if the temp is 38° or above in Moorabbin at the scheduled start time play can’t commence until the temp drops below 38°. If play does commence the off field side must check the 1196 weather line every 20 minutes and once the temp goes above 38° play will cease until the temps drops. The captains can agree to end the game at any time in these conditions taking into account the temp will most likely continue to increase.

In the MCA if the predicted temp is 40° or higher for Melbourne at 7.00am the MCA will reduce one day games to 70 overs (2 day matches no change), the captains at the toss may agree to shorten to a 60 over game. Again if the temp is 40° or above play can’t start and if the temp is below 40° and play commences the off field side must also check the 1196 weather line but check Melbourne’s temp.

In the ISEC for the Friday junior games if the temp is 35° or above at 4pm all matches are cancelled. The ISEC rules state the BOM website temp so we will guess that is for Melbourne.

In the SECA for the Saturday junior game if the temp is 37° at 8.00am play can’t start. If play gets underway and the temp stays at 37° or above for one hour play must be abandoned for the day. 1196 check Moorabbin

All associations and the council are clear that extra care should be taken, extra drinks breaks as required. Prepare correctly make sure that you are covered up and hydrated. Where association rules permit take drinks in the shade, have a drink bottle out with the square leg umpire.

Good luck and stay safe.

Peter Cassidy Debuts in 1st XI District Cricket

Peter Cassidy who played both junior and senior cricket with Carnegie CC made his debut in 1st XI district cricket this past weekend.

Peter transferred from Prahran to Dandenong this season to further his career at the highest level, the change has paid off with Peter being picked as a bowler in the two day match vs the Camberwell Magpies. Peter bowled well and by all reports bowled with plenty of variations and bowled very tight. His figures for the day were: 8 Overs 2 maidens 1 for 21.

This is the highest grade of cricket in Victoria below the state team and is great reward for the years of hard work Peter has put into his cricket. I’m sure most would have seen the hours that Peter has spent in the nets at Koornang Park over the years. This hard work has paid off. Peter’s family have also been constant supporters of his career and are also active members of the CCC family. Peter also has an elder brother (Ryan) at the club currently playing in the Carnegie CC second XI.

We wish Peter all the best and hope he gets many more games in the Dandenong firsts. When we get a chance we will get Peter down to have a chat to some of our younger players about the experience of playing at top level cricket.

Senior Neggie of the Month

We have a newly created award “The Neggie of the Month”. This award is given out to a senior member who has gone above and beyond around the club in the month. This can be assisting with covers, helping with wicket prep, cleaning the rooms. It can also be helping out with the juniors, T-20 Blast, Milo. Basically the more everybody helps out the easier it is for everybody.

The first Senior Neggie of the month  is Hilton Duncan pictured here receiving his award from Ash Chawla who has kindly sponsored the award. Hilton receives $50 Neggie cash that can be used to buy merchandise or drinks/meals from the bar. Hilton has been very busy around the club in November, cleaning, helping with the wickets, and helping set up on match days, laying covers and much more. Well Done Hilly.

Another Big Week @ Carnegie CC

It has been a big couple of weeks with lots happening around the club. Some improved and solid performances gave us a strong show across the board on-field and the Trivia Night and T20 last week were cracking evenings. Well done and thank you to all who supported the club at these events.

THIS THURSDAY NIGHT AFTER TRAINING we are going to have our selection night dinner at Del Mar (just around the corner from Koornang Park). Del Mar is a generous sponsor of our club so attendance is compulsory for all senior players. They also do great coffees and food and are fully licensed if you are looking for a place to have a beverage or a bite.

Our juniors have also been going well. Unfortunately most games were washed out on Friday night but the Under 13s still played and put in a valiant effort defending their 121 before Caulfield passed them late in the cold, wet night. The under 12s continued their unbeaten run on Saturday morning with a win over Brighton. All 6 of ur T20 BLAST teams are all going well and Marnie and Aidan are doing a fine job with the Milo in2CRICKET on Sundays. Get along and see our juniors in action with games every Friday night and Saturday morning at Lords Res # 3 and every Friday at East Caulfield Res # 2 (next to Monash Uni), T20 BLAST every Saturday at Koornang Park and Sundays at Hurlingham Park East Brighton and in2CRICKET every Sunday from 10AM at Koornang.

Matches:
The 1s were stoic in their efforts against Port Melbourne. On a dicy wicket in week 1 we managed to put 150 on the board with Regan “Ron Dog” Buckley top scoring with 45 at the top of the order in a gutsy effort that lasted 50 overs. In a reduced overs day in week 2, we were in a strong position before Port managed to pass our score in the last over of the day. Regan again led the way by picking up 5 fa with the ball in a herculean effort from 20 overs.

The 2s were at home in far more favourable conditions at Koornang Park and had a bat on day 1. A positive start saw the run rate up at 4 per over before losing our openers. Stuart Easton joined Al Patey and kept the runs flowing until Stuart came undone and before drinks and we were 3 down. Andrew Morrissey and Al saw off the openers and then proceeded to plunder the attack to all parts before Andrew tried one too many ambitious shots and was out for a fine 68 in a 100 run partnership with Al. We kept the runs flowing and wickets were falling but Al remained at the crease to see a few more team mates come and go. Al had an ounce of luck and managed his maiden ton for the Negie and was met with rapture from his team mates. Day 1 ended with us at 7/309. The day 2 wicket had a bit more juice in it and the Port boys were on the back foot right from the start. Wickets came easily for the Neg with all bowlers chiming in to have them cleaned up before the tea break for 60. We put them back in hoping for an outright but after 3pm the Koornang Park wicket was a far more docile place to bat and we could only pick up 4 wickets in the 2nd dig. Aarun “BBQ” Tong took 3 in the first dig along with Lukey Meyer.

The 3s were playing against Old Camberwell Gammarians at the massive Cordner Oval in Fawkner Park. It was tough going on day 1 with the bat and we eventually scraped together 104 with Peter Scoulidis scoring 31. We had 18 overs at them and managed to snare 2/26 with both wickets going to Kris Srikanth. Day 2 saw us take up the challenge but Old Camberwell got over the line.

The 4s have had a couple of see-sawing affairs in their past 2 games. We managed to roll Monash Uni for 56 last week only to find ourselves in all sorts of trouble at 8/40 odd before Steve “Old Man River” Yeats guided us home for Ranjit Nair’s maiden win as skipper. Sumit “Sam” Chawla picked up 4 wickets with the ball. The following week we were up against a strong Powerhouse outfit and we were all out for 101 in 41 overs. Our turn to bowl got us right into contention when we had the opposition 5/56 before they passed us 7 down with 11 overs to spare.

Sunday B have had a fortnight of ups and downs. A convincing win against Glen Iris last week where we put on 187 with Ari Morton continuing his good form with 41 which handed us an easy victory with Glen Iris only getting to 8/101. This week was a different story when we batted first against Emmanuel South Oakleigh when we were bowled out for 90 of 22 overs and were easily passed in 25 overs with the opposition 5 wickets down.

Sunday A grade are having a good old time with only 1 loss this season and Ash leading his merry men on their merry way to cruising victories, often passing opposition totals with only 2 or 3 wickets down. Mayank Srivistava has been in hot form with the bat and the bowling honours have been shared around.

See you all at Koornang Park!

DelMar Selection Night This Thursday Night 26/11/2015

This Thursday is the first of our 2 selection nights at DelMar just around the corner on Koornang Rd. DelMar is one of our major sponsors and it is important that there is a big turn out for dinner to support this event. We will be finishing training at 7.25pm and will then head to DelMar.

Competition for spots at the moment is hot and Thursday night training is also compulsory after interrupted Tuesdays due to 20/20 action and poor weather.
