Vale Ron Cusack

It is with great regret that we announce the passing of club great Ron Cusack. Ron passed away in the early hours of this morning. Ron has been unwell for the past few weeks and as been fighting right to the end.

Steve Yeats was able to spend some time with Ron yesterday and he let him know that all of us were thinking of him and more would be in to visit him over the coming days.

We will keep in touch with Ron’s son Ross and the family about the arrangements and how best members can pay their respects.

Seniors:

The 1st XI is back in action after being promoted to South Division and has a tough first up assignment vs Clayton. The team welcomes English recruit Josh Crine  and also welcomes back Coach Vinay Tripathi, Ash Chawla, “Psycho” Sid Kumar and Rahual Chauhan. The first’s will still have last years narrow GF loss burning in the stomach for sure. Captain Fenno still at the helm.

The 2nd XI has been promoted up 2 grades after their premiership win in South A2 and are now playing in the new super grade Senior South Seconds with 18 teams in the grade! Here the top eight sides will play off for 2 premierships. 5 of last years premiership players will take to the field. We welcome Vasu Srinivas, Hamish Bull and Tarun Grandhi for their first games in the seconds. They are taking on Clayton at Jack Meade reserve, Murf still at the helm.

The 3rd XI has newly appointed Dave the “Model” Goodey now in charge after being promoted from the 4th XI. Dave seems to be able to bring players along for the journey and has promised to feed plenty of quality players into the 2nd’s. The 3rd’s are playing Power House down at Lords and will be keen to follow up their strong first up win last week with another this week. Now that the “Model” is in the 3rd’s this also means the famous team manager Gemma will be there also!

The 4th XI also has a new/old skipper in Vernon Purdey, he was skipper of the first XI back in 94/95. He still has the fire burning and is looking to follow the recent tradition of the 4ths with many finals appearances. Young Tom Robinson has the gloves, I think he will be in the 3rds pretty soon.

The A grade also had a win last week and with Ash Chawla back in charge are looking for big things this season. This is the newly formed A-Sunday that is all one days matches so there will be plenty of attractive cricket. I also notice the Doctor Davor Stanic is in to bowl big outswingers! They are away to Malvern @ TH King Reserve

The B-Sunday grade are @  the home of cricket (Koornang Park) vs Melbourne Strikers. Ari Morton backing up from runs last week will be keen to make plenty more to continue his famous facebook posts. This match also is the return of long time past member of the club Hilton “Hilly Duncan”. This man has been seen at many clubs since he departed the Neg, we thought he was lost forever. But the deep connection he has with Elliot Cartledge knows no bounds and he is back. don’t blob up!

Good luck to all and help out your captains with setting up and packing up and lets get 11 wins this week. For Senior home games covers are in use at both grounds on both days this weekend so attend early.

First Girls Junior Match for Carnegie CC

History is Made

Last Wednesday history was made with Carnegie’s first all girls junior cricket match taking place. The practice match took place at Lord Reserve vs local rivals Murrumbeena. A great sized crowd turned up to see this momentous occasion. The girls had a great time and I’m sure they will now be ready to go for round 1.

Winning Weekend

It was a winning weekend for Carnegie CC to kick off the first round of cricket for the summer with all of the four teams that played recording victories. Well done to all who took the field and thanks to those who helped with off field duties to get everything ready, especially Hilton “Hilly” Duncan. Below are the match scores and best performers.

Our 1st and 2nd XI play their first match this weekend so we will have a big selection night this Thursday with a meal for $9 per person after training, catering for all diets. Now that daylight savings has kicked in and the weather is warmer it will be good to see some big numbers at all training sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Our junior boys teams kick off this weekend and the All Girls Team and Milo in2CRICKET start next week and T20 BLAST on Sat 24th October. Get along and support our young cricketers as they love having seniors at their games. All fixtures are on mycricket.cricket.com.au

We are always looking for volunteers to help with a range of activities at the club so don’t be shy and ask Vinay, Elliot, your captain or any of the committee members on how to get involved.
