Round 5 Results

A tough day out for the Saturday sides, the 1sts posted a solid 5/169 and had Bonbeach 8 down with 10 to get off the final over – which they got, finishing 8/172. The 2nds were sent in at Koornang and set 9/135, which Bonbeach reeled in with a few overs to spare, hitting 7/151.

The 3rds were washed out yet again, this time thanks to some localised showers courtesy of the Lords Reserve sprinkler system. The 4ths got on on a slow deck at Princes Park, captain Ash Pandey hitting 38 to take us to 9/123, but we struggled to break through Cheltenham’s top order as they hit 6/138.

In the Sunday games, the Sunday 1sts started their 2-dayer against Malvern in the field, bowling the visitors out for 206, and made a promising start to our reply, 0/36 at stumps. The Sunday 2nds pulled off a cracking win out at Fawkner, in massive trouble at 8/44, James Wilcock pulled us out of the fire with 47 to take us to 112. The Melbourne Cobras were looking untroubled at 4/80 in reply, before Dave Watson got amongst it with 5/15 to knock them over for 88.

On Friday night, the U/13s posted a strong win over Toorak-Prahran at Lords, chasing 2/108, Josh Meyer led the way with 25* as we racked up 3/123. The U/11s faced a tough ask to chase down Malvern’s 3/129, falling short with 6/54.

Round 4 Results

The 1sts got on the winners list for the first time this season, picking up the points comfortably over Parkdale United at Koornang. Chasing 7/154, Matt Hawley led us home with 77 as we compiled 5/182. The 2nds played out another nail-biter, this time falling an agonising 1 run short, bowled out for 127 chasing Parkdale United’s 128.

The 3rds missed out on a game again due to the unavailability of Lords, but the 4ths continued their good start to the season out at Princes Park. Batting first we ran up 8/153, and Middle Park were never in the hunt as we knocked them over for 106.

The Sunday 1sts had a strong win in their 2-day game against Coles Sharks, who were 3/28 at the start of the day chasing our 128. We had them trouble at 8/60 before seeing off a late rally to knock them over for 93. Not such a great day for the Sunday 2nds at Koornang, a good team bowling effort saw us restrict East Malvern Tooronga to 115, but we failed with the bat and were rolled for 66.

A wet Friday night for the juniors, the U/11s game against Mt Waverley called off less than 8 overs in with our boys 3/28. The U/13s pick up their clash with Toorak-Prahran next Friday.

Past Players’ Day

The 2013 “Stockdale & Leggo Glen Huntly” Past Players’ Day will be held on Saturday 1st December at Koornang Park. The day kicks off at 3:30pm (or 7pm if solely attending for the dinner and guest speaker), and will wrap up around 11pm.

He will be interviewed by former ‘Negie captain and coach, Elliot Cartledge.

Round 3 Results

A big weekend of cricket as the rain held off for a change and the Saturday comps finally got underway. The 1sts were looking for a big showing first up but couldn’t quite get the choccies, falling just short with 8/131 in response to Hampton’s 9/140. The 2nds pulled off a stunning win at Koornang, chasing Hampton’s 6/174 we were gone for all money before John Young (42*) and Ash Chawla (34*) steered us home with an unbroken 9th-wicket stand. The 4ths jumped out of the blocks well, thumping 5/211 at nearly 6 runs per over, and Bonbeach were never in the hunt replying with 6/111.

The Sunday 1sts struggled to 128 batting first in their 2-day game, but hit back late to have Coles 2/35 at stumps, and a couple of early wickets next week should see them well in the hunt. The Sunday 2nds continued their good start to the season with a big win over Gunbower, chasing 8/142 the result was never in doubt as Dave Bennett cracked 102 on our way to 5/206. Congratulations Dave and well done boys, now 3 from 3 and setting the pace in MCA B Sunday.

In junior cricket, our U/13s made a good fist of a big run chase, hitting 5/125 in response to Oakleigh District Footballer’s 5/165. An encouraging result despite not getting the points.

Results and Round 3

Only the one senior game and two junior games got underway last weekend, with the Sunday 2nds making it two on the trot with a thumping win over Emmanuel, and the U/11s opening their campaign with a thrilling tie against Malvern. The U/13s will be chasing a challenging 165 tonight in the conclusion to their 2-dayer against Oakleigh District Footballers.

It looks like our Saturday sides will finally be getting on the park this weekend, all 1-day games with the 1sts facing Hampton at Boss James Reserve, the 2nds hosting Hampton at Koornang and the 4ths taking on Bonbeach Tangy at Princes Park #4. The Sunday 1sts kick off a 2-day game against Coles at Treyvaud Park, while the Sunday 2nds get their first run on Koornang for the year against Gunbower. Unfortunately the 3rds are missing out again this weekend, and the U/11s have a bye but both should be back in business next weekend.

And for the little ones, our Milo in2CRICKET program starts this Sunday morning at Koornang Park.

Enjoy your cricket everyone.. and carn the Negie!

Round 2

Unfortunately, all Saturday cricket has been called off again this weekend, as well as the Sunday 1sts game. However we will still have some Carnegie teams in action, our Sunday 2nds are scheduled to face Emmanuel at Scammell Reserve on Sunday afternoon, and our junior sides should already be on the park in their Friday night games – the U/11s are hosting Malvern down at Lords #3 and the U/13s are facing Oakleigh District Footballers at Princes Highway Reserve. Get down there if you can!
