CCC 1st One Day GF this Sunday the 5th of Feb from 1pm

white-ball-gf-poster

The Carnegie CC Saturday First XI have made the CSB Division 1 one day grand final, this will be held this Sunday at Carnegie’s main ground Koornang Park @ 1pm vs Brighton District CC. The CSB comp was set up this season by Cricket Victoria and all the VTCA southern teams moved into the new comp. The comp very much follows the District cricket structures. So this year for the first time we have played a white ball competition within the normal 2 day red ball competition with all the points counting towards the 2 day ladder but also counting towards a white ball ladder. The white ball games were a mix of one day matches and 20/20 matches and was really enjoyed by all the players. Currently the first XI are on top of the ladder in both 2 day and 1 day ladders and have made it so far through to the white ball grand final.

The grand final is this weekend with some serious talent from both home and overseas to be on show in both teams. The last match between the 2 teams was a 20/20 match 2 weeks ago that came down to the last over with Carnegie winning in a close one.

The match is 40 overs per side kicking off at 1pm, the match is played in coloured clothing with a white ball. There are over restrictions, fielding restrictions and a reduced ground size as per district rules.

The club will also have the famous Stuart Easton roast spit running during the day with Lamb, Chicken and beef available. The rolls are $6.00 each. The bar and kiosk will also be open. The club will also have music playing during the intervals and some milo and T-20 blast action happening in the main break. It will be a family friendly atmosphere and plenty of Carnegie juniors will be around.

Make sure we get a big crowd down to support the boys as they play in our 3rd first XI GF attempt in 7 years and attempt to win our first 1st XI premiership in 20 years.

Vale Jarrod Maginness

It is with much sadness that we inform you of the sudden and unexpected passing away of Jarrod Maginness. Jarrod passed away on Wednesday 23rd November and we learnt of the sad news over the weekend. Jarrod first played with Carnegie in 2011 and was always keen to put his hand up and play for our club. Along with his good efforts on the park he will be best remembered for being great for a chat and socialising with his fellow club members. In the past 2 seasons he was not able to play as often but still dropped by to catch up with the comings and goings of the club.

His passing was very sudden as he was in good health and his family is devastated. He is survived by his daughter, Chloe, who is going to secondary college next year. Jarrod’s twin sister has started a go fund me page to assist with the costs of attending:

Our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to Jarrod’s family at this time. As a tribute, all senior players will wear black arm bands this weekend.
For those who can attend the funeral, it will be held on Friday 2nd December, 2.30PM, please contact the club for details.

We have 15 days til the first ball is bowled for 2016/17 and it has been a great start to the season. Numbers at training have been strong, we have welcomed new talent into the group and we had an impressive win in a practice match against Middle Park CC on Saturday. Our junior teams have grown and they have also had a strong start with their pre-season. As most would also know by now we have added a 7th senior side so please make sure you are available for round one.

Training is on at Koornang Park on Sunday and each Tuesday and Thursday from 5.30PM. Next week will be optional sessions for those who have attended regular preseason sessions but a good opportunity for any players looking to get another hit in or get started. We have a practice match this Saturday against Yarra United. Our final Sunday training session will be this Sunday from 10AM-12noon and BBQ and registrations to follow.

We require everyone to complete registration ASAP to ensure we are all in order for the start of the season. Please make every effort to attend the club on Sunday and complete the registration form and either make your first of 3 payments or the make the full discounted upfront payment.
